The Birth of ABIBOO Studio, by Alfredo Munoz
As the founder of ABIBOO Studio, I am proud to announce today, October 26th of 2010, the official birth of the firm.
ABIBOO Studio is born with the belief that design and architecture has an enormous capacity to improve the quality of people’s lives, and that our built environments deeply affect our minds, bodies, and souls. We aim to contribute to our planet and society with our expertise, hard work, and collaborative processes.
Society is changing at a rapid speed, and a powerful way to make it better is through innovation. Our commitment will always be to create solutions that are functional, sustainable, and that move the design discipline forward, inspiring others to embrace creativity as a tool for societal wellbeing.
ABIBOO Studio starts with a global mindset, with the conviction that a globalized world is an opportunity to learn from our differences and to become a more advanced and rich society. ABIBOO’s vision is to contribute to a diversity of cultures to build the material frameworks for their citizens to bloom.
As a south European national, Latin culture is at the core of my being. However, my time living in Japan had a profound impact on my way of understanding life. When deciding the name of the firm, I wanted to summarize my commitment to creativity and my admiration for the cultural differences of the world. As a result, I decided to name the firm with a neologism evoking the “origin of creativity”, and that derives from the Latin (ab initio, which means “from the beginning”), and the Japanese (伊部 – iboo, meaning “one who is creative”).
ABIBOO Studio starts with a young, but talented and committed team of architects and designers that share the same vision and an optimistic view of the impact that humans can do in our world.
During the last ten years, I had the fortune to work and learn from some of the most relevant architects of the end of the XX Century. I would like to publicly thank Alberto Campo Baeza, Iñaki Abalos, Juan Herreros, Toyo Ito, and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill for allowing me to grow as a global architect. Moving forward, I will be honored to teach and lead members of the next generation of talent with the same appreciation, respect, and commitment to excellence that I received from all of my previous employers.
ABIBOO Studio is looking forward to partner with the organizations and individuals who need to translate complex requirements into innovative and cost-effective solutions. We are born with a humble attitude and with the determination to help in any way we can. Thank you for giving a chance to the “Origin of Creativity”™!!

Como fundador de ABIBOO Studio, me enorgullece anunciar hoy, 26 de octubre de 2010, el nacimiento oficial de la firma.
ABIBOO Studio nace con la creencia que el diseño y la arquitectura tienen una enorme capacidad para mejorar la calidad de vida de las personas, y que nuestros entornos construidos afectan profundamente a nuestras mentes, cuerpos y almas. Nuestro objetivo es contribuir a nuestro planeta y a la sociedad con nuestra experiencia, trabajo duro y procesos colaborativos.
La sociedad está cambiando a gran velocidad y una manera eficaz de mejorarla es a través de la innovación. Nuestro compromiso siempre será crear soluciones que sean funcionales, sostenibles y que hagan avanzar la disciplina del diseño, inspirando a otros a adoptar la creatividad como herramienta para alcanzar el bienestar de la sociedad.
ABIBOO Studio parte de una mentalidad global, con la convicción de que un mundo globalizado es una oportunidad de aprender de nuestras diferencias y de convertirnos en una sociedad más avanzada y rica. La visión de ABIBOO es contribuir a diferentes culturas construyendo los marcos materiales donde sus ciudadanos puedan florecer.
Como original del sur de Europa, la cultura latina está en el corazón de mi ser. Sin embargo, el tiempo que viví en Japón tuvo un profundo impacto en mi forma de entender la vida. Al decidir el nombre de la empresa, quise resumir mi compromiso con la creatividad y mi admiración por las diferencias culturales del mundo. Por ello, decidí nombrar la empresa con un neologismo que evocara el “origen de la creatividad”, y que derivara del latín (ab initio, que significa “desde el principio”), y del japonés (伊部 -iboo, que significa “aquel que es creativo”).
ABIBOO Studio comienza con un equipo de arquitectos y diseñadores jovenes pero talentosos y comprometidos, que comparten la misma visión y un enfoque optimista sobre el impacto que el ser humano puede lograr en nuestro mundo.
Durante los últimos diez años, he tenido la fortuna de trabajar y aprender de algunos de los arquitectos más relevantes de finales del siglo XX. Quiero agradecer públicamente a Alberto Campo Baeza, Iñaki Abalos, Juan Herreros, Toyo Ito y Skidmore, Owings & Merrill por permitirme crecer como arquitecto global. De cara al futuro, me sentiré honrado de poder enseñar y liderar a miembros de la próxima generación de talento con el mismo aprecio, respeto y compromiso con la excelencia que recibí de todos mis empleadores anteriores.
ABIBOO Studio busca asociarse con las organizaciones e individuos que necesitan traducir requerimientos complejos en soluciones innovadoras y rentables. Nacemos con una actitud humilde y con la determinación de ayudar en todo lo que esté en nuestras manos. ¡¡Gracias por dar una oportunidad al “Origen de la Creatividad”™!!
